I watched Barrack Obama accept the Democratic Nomination last night and I've gotta say, it was something else!

I have a great interest in politics but cannot stand to watch the regular CNN crap that is usually on—I find it incredibly boring. I do however, enjoy watching these great political moments and last night was the most historical political event of my lifetime.

His speech was fantastic and he gave great hope to the American people. But the thing that gave me the most hope was the people. The stadium was filled with over 100, 000 people and that many people with that much hope is a powerful thing alone. You could see the hope in their eyes—that this man was something that they needed and had been a long time coming. Many people were also crying. These people are very aware of the current state of their country.

The current administration has single handedly destroyed the economy and as well are destroying the earth. They are only out for personal gain as well as that of the special interest groups.

I am Canadian, and many other Canadians I know, don't pay attention to American politics. They say that it doesn't effect them. I disagree, I think it has an enormous effect on us. We are their neighbors and our economies are so tightly intertwined. This is why I am rooting for Barrack Obama. I think he will do, not only, his country a great service but the entire world will benefit from his leadership as President of the United States of America.

Barrack Obama isn't going to do it all (no one can). But he is going to help the people help themselves which I think is the greatest thing he can give them.

I can't draw hands. I never could. They always make my illustrations look as though the character has some sort of physical disability. To compensate that lack of ability, I usually tend to draw some sort of lumpy mitten.

Ok, here is my beef. Everyone knows of the popular series, American Idol, right?? Well, I hate this show. I've hated it since it's debut and for many reasons, but I've finally concluded why I think this show is produced by Satan himself.

Besides the obvious fact that the music just plain sucks, the show is set up to make millions of dollars and nothing else. They may say that they are going to launch these kids into super stardom but really, has anyone heard any recent news of Justin and Kelly lately?

Here is how the show is set up. All of the executives, producers and assholes in general gather together these kids from all over the US who think they have some kind of voice and set them up to audition for this TV show. Finally, when the number of contestants are selected, the series is broadcast. So, each episode, these kids sing their hearts out hoping to stay on another round. Then, the fans are allowed to phone in for $.90 or so, and vote AS MANY TIMES AS THEY LIKE—resulting in a skewed tally! Think about it, there are a lot of people who watch this show each week, and a lot of people who have a particular fondness or affinity with a contestant and with this voting system, John or Jane can phone in as many times as they like resulting in millions of dollars for the executives of American Idol and shitty shitty music for the rest of us!

Why should John or Jane be choosing our music for us? Who's to say that their taste in music speaks for all of us? They're just fanatics trying to get the best possible score for their favorite Idol! There are a lot of people who aren't fanatics, but I've met some of these people who spend the given time voting for their favorite and this doesn't get us anything. Someone wins the title of American Idol and then their popularity quickly dies when the next season airs.

If democracy was set up like American Idol, we would never see another democrat in the White House again—I'm sure of it!

Squidoo!

If anything, the name alone is what convinced me to sign up. It's a funny thing, the internet. I used to be able to spend hours upon hours searching for stuff—leaning about the world I live in. Now, with facebook, I will always, strictly out of habit click the facebook bookmark button, even when I meant to go to hotmail.

There are many other links that I visit when purposely looking for something to distract myself from my work, but today I found something else—something else that will allow me to distract other people! :) It's called Squidoo and I just like saying the name, "Squidoo, Squidoo, Squidily-Doo, Squidoo!!" It's what the internet people call a lens. From what I can so-far understand is that it is a page devoted to a topic and posted by someone like you or I.

My lens is titled Graphic Design & Illustration. This is what I do for a living and it's also what I do in my spare time. What can I say? I love it.

Anyway, Squidoo has allowed me to compile everything creative that I've got my hands in at the moment, websites, blogs, etc.

I'm a big Slacker!

It's true. I haven't written in this blog since... August? Jeez... I'd better get crackin'!

Well, I've been working on a lot of things. I've been dirtying my hands in just about everything, but that's the problem. I've got so much going on that it's really hard to finish anything I start.

I have been better at organizing my work. Everything else is in perpetual motion.

Ah well, in approximately 40-some days my husband and I are moving to Halifax. We're are really looking forward to this move. We have an excellent location where we will be able do our work—both professional and creative, and we won't be confined to what you see above in the blog title photo. Currently, we both work from home in a small apartment. He is in the livingroom while I am in the bedroom. It's hard to do anything else without distracting the other but that won't be the case in March. Everything about the new place is great and I can feel a real creative spark taking place—even in photography!

Anyway, enough of that boring ol' shite. I've got things to do and shouldn't be wasting my precious time here rambling to no one.

Her Other Blog has a new look!

Her Other Blog has a new look! and it is all thanks to CSS. I have been teaching myself CSS for the past two weeks. Reading books, watching tutorials. God, it is so freaking dry! After a while of being bored out of my mind I jumped right into it and sometimes that is what you need to do. Some people learn very easily by reading about it, some people learn what is told to them. Not me, I simply have to do it and understand how all the parts work in relation to one another.

So, now that this blog has it's own look, I hope to post on it more often. My other blog, Creativity Block has been the primary source for my blogging. I don't write much in that one, though I post a lot of illustrations.

I don't know what this blog will consist of.. perhaps the goings-on of her (me).

Welcome to Her Other Blog!

Her (Me) decided to do another blog because the original blog is being used primarily for posting illustrations. Creativity Block was started as a way of getting over just that, a creativity block. I hadn't been creative in quite some time and I needed to give myself a project that might keep me on top of things, so this was my solution.

So for the first few months, I barely did shit. I whined and complained about how school and work was bogging me down and I wasn't doing a single thing to remedy the situation. Then came along a much need break from work and school, Christmas! Over Christmas I decided that I was capable of far too much to be stuck at a shitty job that I hated. So since Christmas, I have been killing myself by illustrating the hell out of my sketchbook, building my new website and adding more to my portfolio. I am getting more inspired and I am getting ready to do more. I can also easily foresee myself picking up my camera again. It's been nearly two years since I did anything with it and it is about time I got back at it.

So, this blog is going to be a free for all. Photography, ideas, dreams, funny things, etc.

This is my nephew Blake. I used to photograph him quite a lot.
